Launched in December 1997 and restructured in 2001, the Swarnjayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana was the primary urban livelihoods and employment scheme for the urban poor below poverty line. SJSRY had two components — the Urban Self Employment Programme (USEP) providing micro-enterprise loans, and the Urban Wage Employment Programme (UWEP) for wage employment. It was replaced by the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) in September 2013.
