Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)

iAbout This Scheme

Launched in 2000-01 under Prime Minister Vajpayee to achieve universalisation of elementary education, SSA was the Government's main vehicle for implementing the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009. It funded school construction, teacher recruitment, free textbooks, midday meals linkage, and quality improvement. SSA was merged with the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Teacher Education scheme to form Samagra Shiksha in 2018-19.
