PMRPY incentivised employers to generate new employment in the formal sector by having the government pay the full employer's EPF contribution (12% of wages) for new employees earning up to ₹15,000/month for 3 years. The scheme ran from 2016-17 to 2019-20 and benefitted 1.22 crore workers.
