राष्ट्रीय मलेरिया नियंत्रण कार्यक्रम
Ministry of Health
Launched in 1953, the National Malaria Control Programme used DDT indoor residual spraying to combat malaria, which killed over 750,000 Indians annually at independence. The programme achieved dramatic success, reducing cases from 75 million in 1953 to fewer than 100,000 by 1964. It was upgraded to the National Malaria Eradication Programme (NMEP) in 1958 following WHO advisory recommendations.
