जवाहर रोजगार योजना
Ministry of Rural Development
Launched on 28 April 1989 by merging NREP and RLEGP, the Jawahar Rozgar Yojana was the largest rural employment programme in the world at the time of its launch. It aimed to generate additional gainful employment for unemployed and under-employed persons in rural areas by creating durable community assets. JRY was restructured as the Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana (JGSY) in 1999 focusing on village-level infrastructure.
